AI Summer Jam

While it’s common for much of the world to wind down during Summer, at Wavelo we’ve been turning up the heat on innovation. As we look ahead to a busy Fall—with events like Innovate Americas, SCTE Tech Expo, and Futurecom—our teams have been pushing new ideas forward.

But it hasn’t been just business as usual. This summer, Wavelo hosted our first-ever AI Summer Jam: a full-day, company-wide event dedicated to experimenting with AI in ways that are bold, practical, and sometimes just plain fun.

Build. Demo. Learn.

That was the energy—and the mission—behind this year’s inaugural AI Summer Jam. We invited our global teams to our headquarters in Toronto, to showcase their own bold, creative ideas powered by AI, all designed to make life at Wavelo smarter.

Like a musical jam session, our AI Summer Jam invited every Wavelo team member—engineer, designer, data scientist, or new joiner—to experiment, riff, and improvise. This resulted in 22 demos across the business, each uniquely designed to tackle the real-world problems that our teams face every day.

What We Built Together

This spirit led to some truly inventive projects—including three that perfectly captured what the Jam was all about:

  • Natural Language Test Plan Runner developed by Raghad AbuSharar (Engineer II, Quality Assurance): An AI tool that lets anyone filter and execute telecom regression tests using simple language prompts. By making complex testing workflows accessible with just a few words, this saves hours and lowers the barrier for non-technical collaborators.
  • Wavelo Insights Chat Agent developed by Pepi Willson (People Business Partner) and Stefan Arentz (Principal Engineer II, InfoSec): A chat-based, internal agent designed to give instant answers about Wavelo teams, people, and projects.
  • And the winning project—AI OnBoard! | iBoardYou3000 by Chris Jardine (Principal Engineer II, Development), Karen Evans (Engineer II, Development), Kay Evans-Stocks (Engineer I, Development), Michael Yin (Engineer II, Development). This tool streamlines developer onboarding by creating a consistent, AI-driven experience that reduces reliance on undocumented knowledge.

From Demo to Doing: What’s Next

These aren’t just proof-of-concept demos—they’re stepping stones toward making our day-to-day smoother and more connected.

Our AI Summer Jam wasn’t just about technology either; it was about empowering our people to turn big ideas into practical solutions. Silos were broken, new partnerships formed, and we witnessed first-hand just how much more we can accomplish together.

The energy didn’t end when the last demo wrapped. Many ideas are already live and others are being explored for integration into real workflows. Even the most experimental builds have left behind blueprints for what we might try next.
