Where Agentic AI Becomes Real

Agentic AI dominated the conversation at DTW Ignite this year. But beyond the excitement around autonomous agents, one question came up again and again: How can operators confidently deploy AI into real-world operations?
For communications service providers, AI isn't simply another technology investment. It has to operate within live networks, support millions of customers, protect revenue, and make decisions that can be trusted. The challenge isn't whether AI is capable, it's whether the operational environment around it is ready.
That's the thinking behind our message at DTW:
Take back control. Scale AI safely.

AI can only make good decisions when it's working from trusted, real-time information. Yet many telecom environments still rely on fragmented operational data, disconnected OSS and BSS platforms, and manual handoffs between systems. When network, service, product, and customer information aren't synchronized, autonomous decision-making quickly becomes unreliable.
Our two TM Forum Catalyst projects explored what happens when that foundation is in place.
Our Value-Driven Agentic AI Marketplace for Mega Events Moonshot Catalyst demonstrated how multiple AI agents can collaborate to deliver better experiences during high-demand events. Whether provisioning premium connectivity for sponsors, responding to network congestion, or improving roaming experiences, autonomous agents worked together to orchestrate outcomes in real time. Just as importantly, operators maintained visibility into how decisions were made, why actions were taken, and how commercial policies and customer commitments were enforced throughout the process.
Our second Catalyst, Autonomous and Sustainable Moving IoT Ecosystems at Scale – Phase III, explored a different but equally demanding environment. Connected drones, autonomous vehicles, and other moving IoT devices require continuous service assurance, dynamic connectivity, and intelligent orchestration as conditions change. Wavelo's event-driven architecture, product catalog, charging, billing, and Agentic Assurance capabilities helped demonstrate how operators can support these complex ecosystems while creating new monetization opportunities and optimizing sustainability.
Although the use cases were different, both projects reinforced the same lesson: autonomous operations don't begin with smarter AI models. They begin with a trustworthy operational foundation.
When AI has access to accurate, real-time context—and the ability to safely orchestrate actions across operational and commercial systems—it becomes a practical tool for improving customer experiences, accelerating service delivery, and unlocking new revenue opportunities. Without that foundation, even the most sophisticated AI is limited by the quality of the information it receives.
As the telecom industry moves from AI experimentation toward production deployments, the conversation is shifting from what AI can do to what operators can trust AI to do. The organizations that succeed won't simply adopt more AI—they'll build the operational foundation that allows AI to act with confidence, transparency, and control.
That's what it means to take back control. And that's how AI begins to scale safely.
